WHAT
PEOPLE HAVE EXPERIENCED
Some experiences from Jingang Qigong students are gathered here. People
can have different experiences based on their own health condition,
and the extent of concentration during practice. Also, the same person
can experience different feelings and outcome at different practices.
To achieve self-healing, daily practice is required. The very common
experience is increased energy after practice, especially when the concentration
is good during the set.

¡°I can feel a ¡®force¡¯ around my hands, much like opposing magnets, during
certain movement. I also get very hot. I find it surprising since the
movements are so slow.¡±

¡°I¡¯ve been feeling better with my upper part of the body, but my legs
and feet seems to hurt towards the end. I do have sciatica (lower back
to back of legs nerve problem). Will this exercise help?¡± (He did
mention after class that his legs felt hot. He felt ¡®so good¡¯ when finishing
practice at home last week.)

¡°I noticed it was much easier to breath slowly and deeply. I also noticed
much heat being generated from my body. It was also easier to keep my
balance this time.¡±

¡°Aside from the pain in my already sore shoulder, the experience was
all positive. I felt the energy strongly there most of the two cycles.
My heavy breathes became slower and more easy as we moved the end and
my overall breathing, which is not that good, was quite easy and relaxed.
The pace was good for me. I usually move quickly so it will take a while
to be comfortable in low gear, my feeling tonight tells me I will be
there soon.¡±

in heels sometimes dizziness as if part of me is expanding or floating

"During the exercise, I felt as though I could move my limbs just
by thinking about them. That is, I didn't have to concentrate so much
on the act of movement, but rather on simply on thought of movement.
The slight pain in my feel and shoulders at first distracted me from
concentration, but later it seemed to enhance the exercise because it
allowed me to realize how I could overcome the pain just by wishing
it to go away. Afterwards, I wanted to continue the slow movements since
they felt more natural and came easier to me than before. I felt warmth
all throughout my body that I have not felt before. Though strange,
I would like to prolong this sensation."

¡°In the year since I have begun practicing both the active and meditative
forms of Qi Gong, there has been a dramatic improvement in the quality
of my life. The improvement has been mostly what Western knowledge might
consider unquantifiable--including an increase in concentration and
energy level, kinder relationships, and a happier outlook.
When I am faced with seemingly onerous tasks--dealing with an ¡°attitudinally
challenged¡± student or an irate parent--I hear our teachers¡¯ voices
saying, ¡°Melt your heart,¡± and ¡°fan song,¡± and the burdens disappear.
Recently, I also experienced a more quantifiable form of improvement.
I¡¯d returned to the mainland winter after several months in the islands,
and with the shift in climate and the stress of travel, moving into
a new apartment, and preparing for a new term of teaching, over the
course of a very few days, my resistance lowered and I came down with
the flu. I was able to continue practicing throughout the illness, however--one
hour of active Qi Gong (focusing on the heart wheel) in the morning
and an hour of meditation in the evening.
Being a properly trained skeptic, I cannot claim that it was because
of practice that I never developed a fever during the illness and that
the symptoms were not as bad as they usually can get, though I have
my suspicions. However, being asthmatic, the illness eventually turned
into bronchitis, and this is where I found a measurable benefit.
Each morning, on waking, I measured my lung capacity on a peak flow
meter. At its lowest, my peak flow was down to 280 out of (for me) a
possible 400. After an hour of Intensive Healing Practice, my peak flow
was up by 20 to 30 points, and this was a onsistent result.
Gradually, during the course of the day, this number fell, unless I
also used anti-inflammatory drugs. Some of these caused a significant
rise in heart rate, and if I did a few minutes of relaxed meditation
or healing practice (without willing a particular result), my heart
rate quickly fell back to normal and evened out. Further, I was able
to keep my dosages of anti-inflammatories much lower throughout the
asthma flare and get off them several days sooner than I ordinarily
would.
From these and other experiences, I have become ¡°hooked¡± on practice.
I believe that its benefits not only increase over time, but also with
daily persistence and the attempt to integrate its principles into our
ordinary lives.¡±
